Forklift Classifications
Below are the classes of forklifts that describe the application and fuel option of every kind of forklift. Certification is necessary for each and every class of forklift which the operator would be using.
Class 1 - Electric Motor Rider Trucks
These forklifts are available with either cushion tires or pneumatic tires. Pneumatic tires are suggested for outdoor application in dry conditions. The cushion tired models are made for smooth, indoor surfaces. These are electrically powered vehicles that utilize industrial batteries, that make them suitable inside closed locations where air quality is an issue. Travel and hoist functions are controlled by transistor motor controllers. These are versatile units normally utilized everywhere from storage facility to the loading dock.
Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks
This forklift is suggested for places where narrow aisles need to be negotiated. They are efficient at making the most of storage space. Their unique design makes them ideal for small spaces and where speed is needed.
Class 3 - Electric Motor Hand or Hand-Rider Trucks
These hand-controlled, battery-powered models are intended for the operator to stand in front of the truck and control the lift using a steering tiller. The tiller has controls mounted on top and is moved sideways in order to steer the vehicle. The smaller capacity units use industrial batteries.
