Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift is made up of a series of crisscrossed steel arms which are linked to make an X pattern. When vertically raised, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is located on top of the lifting apparatus. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges to be able to keep the employees safe and help to secure their tools.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile which is great for pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These equipment use either an electric motor or a combustion engine in order to power the lifting mechanism and move the lift. The operator would have to move the lift itself if he or she has to travel horizontally, because the lift mechanism just operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the identical lifting technology as a typical scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is particularly designed for surfaces which are uneven. These units also provide higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive so as to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift uses a telescoping beam that raises both diagonally and vertically. This model has a small work platform which houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics that power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift model and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are connected with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machinery has a bucket or a small work platform that is equipped with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast in order to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Normally, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled machines. These machines offer a great solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is vital to bear in mind that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
