Tower Crane Parts
Tower cranes allow the construction industry to make several amazing structures. These cranes have been designed to reach ever-increasing heights. Tower cranes provide the way to raise and transport supplies, tools and building parts all around a construction site. There are various parts which assemble a tower crane once they are put together. Putting a tower crane together utilizes various pieces of construction machinery.
Base
Usually, the base of a tower crane is made from a steel unit. The base is attached to a custom-designed concrete pad. This kind of set-up gives the structure stability. Generally, the construction needs to be engineered and built well so as to operate at optimum safety.
Mast
The tower cranes mast provides height to the machine. The mast is made of connected steel parts. The amount of sections determines the crane's height. Typically, a tower crane has a design that allows the mast to grow during construction by adding further sections as the building process continues. This way the crane's height can be specified, making sure that it has sufficient height to safely and efficiently carry out the needed work.
Slewing Unit/Top Climber
A slewing unit is situated above the mast. This unit houses the machines and the motor which enables the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of equipment that allows the mast to grow. The top climber sits just below the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams in the top climber enable the slewing unit to be detached from the mast by raising it higher.
Boom
"Boom" is a term that specifically refers to the tower crane's working arm. The boom is made of steel parts attached together, which extend out from the top of the slewing unit, parallel to the ground. There is a trolley connected to the bottom which could extend the length of the boom. This particular trolley holds the hoisting device.
