The forklift is a motorized truck made specifically for raising and transporting items. The equipment has slowly evolved and today there are numerous modern designs for transporting and raising objects. The lift truck is offered in a huge variety of power types like gas powered, diesel, electric, diesel and LP or liquid propane models. The load capacities of these models vary greatly since there are numerous manufacturers that build and design them. The truck's frame is the base of the power source and is the site where the other features are attached. These numerous features include an overhead guard, mast and axles, and the counterweight. On the rear side there is a counterweight attached to the truck. This counterweight counterbalances the cargo which is being lifted in order to keep the machinery stable.

The operator sits in a cab and utilizes the controls to dictate the machine's movements. The overhead is another feature, which is a metal roof in order to protect the operator from falling objects. Hydraulic tilt cylinders mounted to the mast and the frame. These tilts turn the mast in order to engage the load. The mast is a vertical assembly that lowers and lifts the cargo with the interlocking rails to provide lateral stability.
