The driver of the forklift must ideally be able to stand for an 8 hour shift. In most work environments, they would be allowed to have a half-hour lunch break and two short coffee breaks during the day. It is important that the operator of the forklift not be prone to reckless driving or rage of any kind.
Training
Forklift training is normally completed on the job. Training would often cover safety and control training, which could be completed in a variety of ways. These may include videos, lectures and testing. A performance test would also be done on the forklift. After the tests have been done successfully, a license could be issued. This license has to be renewed based on state and provincial laws and according to shop procedures. If you get the chance to complete your lift truck training on the job, it is a great idea and it is a different skill you can add to your resume.
