Types of Boom Lifts or Construction Lifts
A boom lift is a piece of machine that enables employees to perform tasks without having to build a scaffolding. They are used to do maintenance work, to work on elevated structures and are common machines found in factory and warehouse settings too.
Boom lifts could typically provide wheeled and powered bases which could drive itself to the work place and have a platform on them to elevate the employees. There are many different types of lifts and each one is suited to different jobs and settings.
Bucket Trucks
Cherry pickers or bucket trucks, are built with a long boom that has a bucket connected at the end. This bucket area is where an employee may stand. Usually, bucket trucks are used by utility workers and by landscapers. Landscapers usually use these equipment to cut trees.
Every bucket truck has a boom assembly mounted to a regular truck, which allows these vehicles to move fast on normal roads. Furthermore, this increases the area which this equipment can service effectively. This is particularly important for power companies. Like for instance, a lot of these companies use cherry pickers to lift workers up so they could work on and reach transmission lines. The buckets have to be checked regularly and insulated properly as they are working near potential shock hazards.
Articulated booms lifts or knuckle lifts have a work platform mounted to an arm which could bend and reach obstacles. The base of the lift contains a turntable and is capable of turning the lift in a full circle. The base of the lift is mounted on wheels also for extra mobility.
Usually, the articulated boom lift is used for landscaping projects but is also useful for maintenance work on projects that are already finished. Projects that do not need easy access directly underneath the jobsite. These lifts could be used to repair piping or exterior electrical work, and areas that are difficult to clean. Normally knuckle lifts are driven by the employee in the platform with the extended boom.
